This was made public on Wednesday in a press release that the Ministry of Interior's Permanent Secretary, Aishetu Gogo Ndayako, signed.

FG Declared Friday and Monday as Public Holiday For Easter Celebration

"The Federal Government has declared Friday, March 29, and Monday, April 1, 2024, as public holidays to commemorate Good Friday and Easter Monday, respectively," the announcement said.

"On behalf of the Federal Government, the Honorable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, called on Nigerians, especially Christians, to imitate the selflessness and compassion exhibited by Jesus Christ when He gave His life to save mankind.

Beyond its religious significance, Easter, according to the Minister, fosters principles of love, forgiveness, and compassion—values that are critical to social harmony and cohesiveness.

He exhorts Christians to adopt these values since they have the power to improve Nigeria's socioeconomic development by promoting harmony, lowering tensions, and promoting collaboration among Nigerians.

The Minister called on Nigerians to support the President Tinubu-led Administration in its efforts to bring about sustainable development and bring prosperity to all, even as he wished Christians both at home and abroad a joyous and peaceful Easter celebration.

In order to improve the material circumstances of those who are less fortunate than themselves, he also urged Nigerians to engage in deeds of kindness and generosity.

He claimed that this aligns with the President's Renewed Hope Agenda.
